History of Madras

Madras was established in the early 1900s and officially incorporated in 1910, growing as a small agricultural and railroad community in Central Oregon. The town developed around homesteaders and settlers drawn by irrigation projects and fertile land, though no single individual is credited as its sole founder. Over time, Madras became known for its farming industry and as a regional hub, and it has also gained recognition for hosting visitors during major solar events like the 2017 Solar Eclipse, which brought national attention to the area.
